Matthew's Next Performance

‘Paul McCartney Songbook’ Concert Comes to Mount Gretna Playhouse on August 9, 2015
Most people have some leaning toward the music of Paul McCartney as it brings to mind certain memories. The music of the Beatles or Sir Paul’s latter pop dynamo group, ‘Wings’, is a frequent place marker in many peoples’ lives and times. On August 9, 2015, 7:30pm, at Mt. Gretna Playhouse (200 Pennsylvania Ave., Mt. Gretna, PA 17064), Mt. Gretna Music offers a chance to make new memories when jazz bassist, Matthew Parrish, brings his dynamic group to perform select Paul McCartney pieces.
Mr. Parrish is a world-travelled jazz musician who has performed with Wynton Marsalis, Clark Terry, Al Grey, Houston Person, and Regina Carter, to name a few over his nearly 30-year-long career. But what Matthew really brings to this specific concert is his creativity, passion for Paul McCartney’s music, and his warmth and rapport with his friends on the bandstand.
Two world-class, established singing talents – Joanna Pascale and Paul Jost – will share the stage with the band. Both performers have that heartfelt, effortless skill that helps them excel as jazz musicians but they, too, are esteemed for their artistry. They will perform solo on tunes including ‘Why So Blue?’, ‘Maybe I’m Amazed’, ‘Get Back’, and ‘We Can Work it Out’, but they’ll also combine their talents on tunes including ‘Come Together’ and ‘Sally G’.
The band Matthew has hand-picked rounds out the group so the audience has an intimate and sincere experience with their take on these beloved musical works. On piano, Jim Ridl, a native of the wide open space of the Mid-West, brings an honest, open approach to his playing that is perfectly aligned with the clean, direct melodies and crispness of Paul McCartney’s songs. Combined with Tony Miceli on vibraphone and Alvester Garnett on drums, the group offers a jazz flair to the songbook, but remains true to the tone and emotional tug of every amazing McCartney tune they’ll play.
Don’t miss this very original, but authentic, Paul McCartney experience. What is not to love about this fresh, but reverent, take on the Paul McCartney Songbook?
