The small town of Fredriksted, St Croix.

A UNESCO slave trade sight. In 1848 8,000 slaves surrounded the Fort and demanded their freedom. That same day the Governor General announced ”all unfree in the Danish West Indies are free”. Thirty years later there was a bloody rebellion that devastated St. Croix. It was in response to the serfdom set up after the slaves were freed.
